Dementia is a topic discussed often in the media and in light of recent reports that popular figure Jimmy Calderwood, ex-manager of Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Kilmarnock and Ross County, has been living with early onset dementia for two years is helping break down barriers and the stigma associated with the condition.
The team at OPAL have however noticed a number of media outlets referring to the condition with older terminology and we feel these terms have a strong influence on how dementia is viewed, so believe it’s important to use the correct words and descriptions to discuss the condition with respect.
